2. Prepare client for procedure | 2.1 Arrange client bookings according to organisation procedures, clients' needs, and reason for study 2.2 Ensure information on access to test location and test to be attended is received by client 2.3 Receive and process request for test and give to Neurologist to read prior to test commencing 2.4 Correctly identify client, reassure and inform regarding the procedure 2.5 Give client/carer the opportunity to ask questions and discuss areas of concern 2.6 Check client consent has been obtained 2.7 Review client's medical history, seek clarification on specific details and action, as required by Neurologist |
3. Assist neurologist with performance of nerve conduction study | 3.1 Utilise personal protective equipment in accordance with standard and additional precautions 3.2 Inform and reassure the client as appropriate throughout the procedure 3.3 Make selections according to client details and concurrent results under the directions of the neurologist 3.4 Recognise, annotate, eliminate or reduce artefacts 3.5 Monitor client's response to electrical stimulus and adapt procedure accordingly under the direction of the neurologist 3.6 Add/attach further monitoring equipment and/or electrodes in response to concurrent findings under the direction of the neurologist 3.7 Test appropriate nerves and muscles according to standards, medical referral and concurrent results under the direction of the neurologist 3.8 Identify and respond to severe reactions and complications in accordance with organisation emergency procedures |
4. Completion of procedure | 4.1 Perform post test calibration as required 4.2 Provide client with assistance as required, on completion of the procedure 4.3 Confirm timely follow up with referring doctor for results 4.4 Record test details for retrieval and statistical purposes according to department procedures 4.5 Provide information is to client and carer according to duty of care and organisation policies 4.6 Clean dry and store equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines and infection control guidelines 4.7 Dispose of disposable materials in accordance with waste management procedures and infection control guidelines |
5. Method of assessment: | Clinical skills involving direct client care are to be assessed initially in a simulated clinical setting (laboratory).
